The Interamerican Water Day is cellebrated on the first Saturday in October - October 4, this year - a date to reflect on our responsibility in the conservation of water resources in a way that protects both water ecossistems and human health. It was established in 1993 by the Panamerican Health Organization/World Health Organization with the support of the Environmental and Sanitation Engineering Interamerican Association | ||
In Brazil, the State of Rio Grande do Sul was the first one to promote awareness integrated activities as a call to the need of conservation of the water resources through the Interamerican Water Week, which first took place in 1994, promoted by the Brazilian Environmental and Sanitary Engineering Association - ABES-RS with the participation of various public, private and non-governmental agencies. The intention is that the Water Week- which, in 1998 is cellebrated from October 17 to 24 - contributes to reach a widespread awareness so that the people and the government become aware that watter is a finit resource and we must take good care of it. |
